Redo Tea: A Multi-functional and Creative Tea Warehouse

Reimagining the Traditional Warehouse Space

Under the context of traditional space design, warehousing is used to efficiently and safely store goods. Besides these functions, are there more interesting and valuable dimensions to reinterpret and reexamine warehousing space? Why do beautiful things have to be safely hidden away? Can they be presented to the public? Is there a more open and dynamic warehousing mode besides the closed warehousing mode? The project provides an excellent opportunity to practice the concept.

The Redo Tea project, designed by Hongrui Luan from SIGNdeSIGN, challenges the conventional notion of a warehouse by creating a multi-functional and creative space that goes beyond its traditional purpose. Inspired by the idea of warehouse 2.0, this innovative design breaks away from the single-function concept and transforms the space into a new scene that aligns with contemporary lifestyle trends.

Unlike traditional warehouses that prioritize functionality over aesthetics, Redo Tea embraces the beauty of its contents and aims to share it with the public. The concept questions why beautiful things need to be hidden away and explores the possibility of presenting them to a wider audience. By embedding elements of modern urban life, such as libraries, art galleries, exhibition halls, and tea and beverage tasting centers, the project transforms a single micro-space into an "open urban area" on a larger scale.

The design of Redo Tea revolves around the idea of mixed space mode, where various functions coexist harmoniously. The space is organized as floating boxes, strategically arranged to create an organic flow and provide a unique visual experience. With a floor area of approximately 7000 sq. m. and a ceiling height of 9m, the warehouse accommodates reading spaces, exhibition areas, and tea tasting zones.

One of the key features of Redo Tea is the "second behavioral streamline" that runs through the space. This dynamic element allows the warehouse to serve as a scene for immersive theater, where the story scripts of artistic innovation can be shared and disseminated. Additionally, the project can act as a platform for new business experiments in the era of 5G technology, providing endless possibilities for creative interactions and activities.

Located in Xi'an city, Shaanxi province of China, the Redo Tea project started in July 2019 and is currently under construction. The design team, led by Hongrui Luan, includes Shenglun Zhu, Zengxian Zhou, Chao Fang, Jing Guo, Shuai Yuan, Mingjia Ye, and Xiaomeng Cui.

Recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, Redo Tea was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
